Role description

This position reports directly to the Head of Product Engineering (director). The main responsibility of this position is to build the high voltage (HV) system architecture of our EV motorcycle and define how the HV systems interact with other systems and/or subsystems within the vehicle and the charging infrastructure.

About KLN Motors

KLN (PT. Kendaraan Listrik Nusantara - Indonesia Electric Vehicle), was founded in 2022 with the goal of accelerating the adoption of EVs in Indonesia, starting with two-wheeler vehicles. As per January 2022, we are a team of 5 who have left our jobs at Gojek (the largest tech company in Indonesia today) to build KLN full time.

Most of us were early employees at Gojek, and our time there has given us a deep understanding of the Indonesia market and of our initial target user segment which is drivers for on-demand platforms. Our intent is not to build a product which only appeals to on-demand driverswe see them as a segment of power users whose needs we must be able to fulfill with our product, in order to ensure that our product will work for the rest of the market as well. Their requirements for range, reliability, and comfort are what we will be designing our product for.

Expected activity, deliverables, accountability

  • Build the companys HV system team from scratch and in the long run can scale the team as required
  • Create requirement and develop High Voltage (HV) system architecture - (Battery Pack and BMS, Electronic Control Unit, DC DC converters, Onboard Chargers, and EVSE equipment)
  • Create and develop component requirements for each of the HV systems
  • Develop design concepts, create prototype and high reliability production designs which can be made at small scale, and scalable for mass production at the right target pricing for the entire HV system
  • Simulate and validate HV systems operational performance
  • Debug and troubleshooting of analog and digital electronic circuits
  • Conduct engineering validation for manufacturing feasibility and other engineering activities as needed

Candidate criteria

1. Background and skills

  • Electrical engineering education background
  • Have 5+ years of experience and expertise in working within Automotive OEM or Tier 1 Electrical component systems application
  • Having deep knowledge and understanding in implementation of ISO and IEC standard in a vehicle system is a must
  • Strong ownership to deliver end results independently and able to nurture and grow the team as required
  • Keywords of skills: Electrical engineering; power electronics; Battery Management System; Automotive; High Voltage

2. Personality and culture fit

Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable with uncertainty, problem-solver, good at identifying opportunities.

Resourceful and quick to learn things; can figure out solutions without relying too much on other people, on the other hand quick to identify the area in which she/hes lacking and ask for help.

Can-do attitude.

A person of integrity; honest and has strong moral principles.

Does not take themselves too seriously

Able to reason and make decisions from first principles despite lack of directly relevant prior experience

3. Bonus point if:

He/she have IP in designing HV systems

Authored/co-authored publications on HV systems application in mobility space

Deep knowledge of SRM motor technology and its application
