Legal Counsel

Jersey

The Legal Counsel will be a core member of this Groups in-house legal team working to provide legal advice to the Board and senior management and to work closely with client-facing staff and external advisers in relation to legal matters arising in the day-to-day administration of complex high value fiduciary structures.

Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S

A qualified Jersey advocate or English Solicitor/Barrister

STEP member (ideal not essential)

Law degree or equivalent (common law jurisdiction)

Minimum of five years relevant experience

R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S

Provide legal advice within the Company to the boards of companies and the trustees of trusts administered by us.

Provide legal advice in relation to trusts, companies and other offshore structures, risk management in relation to the creation and administration of offshore entities, and the drafting and management of legal and technical documentation

Prepare instructions to external advisers and act as a central point of contact for the engagement of external legal advisers

Support and assist legal, tax and regulatory compliance reporting (and as required, at Group level) including FATCA and CRS, Jersey economic substance, UK and international trust and company registers, and tax compliance

Maintain a wide knowledge and understanding of legal and private client tax matters as they relate to all aspects of the client business

Experience

Previous experience held in a law firm or trust business 5 years +

Knowledge of trust and company law and (ideally) UK tax law, including a sound knowledge of fiduciary structures and functions

Ability to become an expert in new legislation or regulation which is or becomes relevant for the Group

Understanding of the Codes, guidelines, and expectations of the JFSC Strong attention to detail

Able to act with integrity at all times and embrace the philosophy of treating our clients fairly

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Good project management skills

Able to identify and manage any relevant material risks
