Corporate Paralegal

 Job Description:

This role will support our Corporate team in Jersey and offer valuable exposure to corporate work in both Jersey and the British Virgin Islands.

Key Responsibilities

  • To undertake work in support of a team of fee earners, meeting an agreed target chargeable hours
  • Assisting the team with team-specific financials/matter management e.g. budgets, WIP, aged debt reporting
  • Undertaking various searches at the request of fee-earners along with drafting and amending legal documents, (including, and without limitation, legal opinions, conveyance documents, plans for presentation in court, opinion certificates and corporate authorisations etc. as appropriate)
  • Primary line of communication between fee-earners and clients
  • Ensuring that all new client matters are accurately set up in the client accounting and database system and maintaining client records and contact names where appropriate
  • Ensuring files are kept up to date (including filing of documents, emails and correspondence) when active and that files are closed/archived once the matter is concluded following instruction from the relevant fee-earner
  • Undertaking and managing client specific BD arrangements for fee-earners, when necessary
  • Delegating certain administration tasks received from the fee-earners as per the specific team workflow model
  • Utilising all of the services provided by the Global Support Team
  • Providing complete assistance to all fee-earners and clients regarding various legal issues
  • Leading the way with innovation, technology and tools by supporting and trialling new initiatives
  • Screen incoming telephone calls, taking and relaying accurate messages where necessary. Where appropriate, arrange and set up conference and outgoing calls for the team


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Previous paralegal experience or a relevant Legal academic qualification (LLB/SQE/GDL/LPC)
  • High standard of attention to detail
  • Good drafting and written communication skills
  • An inquiring mind keeping up to date with new legislation and topics of interest in the local market
  • Become familiar with using online legal databases
  • Begin to develop commercial awareness
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills to manage workload appropriately
  • Develop an understanding of working to a budget and be aware of budget constraints whilst working
  • Build effective relationships internally and externally
