We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Financial Controller to strengthen our financial leadership and support our continued growth.


Position Summary

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the company's entire financial and management accounting function. This is a hands-on, strategic role that requires a deep understanding of the construction industry's financial intricacies, including project costing, revenue recognition, and risk management. The successful candidate will ensure robust financial controls, provide critical insights to support decision-making, and lead a team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (HKFRS) and company policies.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local statutory and tax filing requirements, including Profits Tax returns, with the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
  • Develop and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.

Project Cost Control & Accounting:

  • Implement and oversee a detailed project costing system to track costs against budgets for all ongoing projects.
  • Supervise the Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedule, ensuring accurate calculation of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition (POC method).
  • Analyze project profitability, identify cost overruns, and provide timely reports to project managers and senior management.
  • Review and approve project-related payments, variations, and final accounts.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management:

  • Manage the company's cash flow forecasting to ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs and project commitments.
  • Oversee banking relationships, financing facilities, and guarantee instruments (e.g., performance bonds, advance payment bonds).

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and regular forecasting updates, integrating project forecasts with the company's overall financial plan.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis, variance analysis, and KPI reporting to support management in strategic decision-making.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team (including accountants and project cost controllers).
  • Continuously review and improve financial systems, processes, and digital tools (e.g., ERP system implementation/optimization) to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Liaise with other departments (e.g., Project Management, Commercial, Tendering) to ensure financial considerations are integrated into business operations.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role within the construction industry in Hong Kong.
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of construction-specific accounting practices, including HKFRS (particularly revenue recognition for construction contracts), project costing, WIP reporting, and bonding.
  • High proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage) and advanced Excel skills. Experience with specialized construction ERP systems is a significant advantage.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
