Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Chargeman BO 33kV to oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of high-voltage electrical installations within our client's demanding data center construction projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and compliance of critical power infrastructure, contributing directly to the successful delivery of complex M&E systems in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and execute the safe operation, switching, and isolation of 33kV switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated high-voltage electrical equipment on data center construction sites.
- Implement and oversee comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all high-voltage electrical systems, ensuring maximum uptime and operational efficiency during construction and commissioning phases of data center infrastructure.
- Conduct thorough fault diagnosis and rectification on 33kV systems and other critical M&E components, responding promptly to minimize disruption to project timelines and progress.
- Ensure strict adherence to all Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) regulations, Malaysian Electricity Regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans, with particular emphasis on Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for high-risk electrical works.
- Actively participate in the testing, commissioning, and energization of new 33kV installations, ensuring all systems meet design specifications, Uptime Institute standards (where applicable), and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of electrical works, permits-to-work, single-line diagrams, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation for all high-voltage assets.
- Liaise effectively with project managers, M&E engineers, contractors, and ST authorities to ensure seamless coordination and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead emergency response efforts for electrical incidents, ensuring swift and safe resolution to prevent hazards and mitigate project impact on critical data center infrastructure.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to site electricians and junior technicians, fostering a culture of safety and excellence in high-voltage electrical practices.
Requirements:
- Possess a valid Chargeman BO 33kV certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) Malaysia.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Chargeman, with significant exposure to high-voltage electrical systems (33kV and above) within large-scale construction projects.
- Demonstrable experience working on critical infrastructure projects, particularly data centers, industrial plants, or similar environments with complex M&E systems and stringent uptime requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of 33kV switchgear, transformers, protective relays, power distribution systems, earthing systems, and M&E components specific to data center infrastructure.
- Thorough understanding and practical application of Malaysian Electricity Regulations, ST guidelines, and relevant international electrical safety standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications for complex power systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for effective fault diagnosis and resolution under pressure.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary project team.
- A strong commitment to safety and quality, with a proactive approach to risk assessment and mitigation.
