Senior Project Planner

 Job Description:

The Senior Planner will be a pivotal member of our project management team, responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining the master project schedule for large-scale data center construction projects. The ideal candidate will be an expert in Primavera P6 and will use this tool to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards. You will provide critical insights into project performance, identify potential risks, and recommend mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop, maintain, and update the integrated master project schedule using Oracle Primavera P6, ensuring it reflects the complete project scope, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Break down project scope into a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and integrate schedules from all stakeholders (designers, contractors, vendors).
  • Establish realistic project baselines, milestones, and critical path methodologies.
  • Create detailed short-term look-ahead schedules and ensure alignment with the master schedule.

2. Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting:

  • Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule, tracking physical completion and earned value.
  • Perform critical path analysis and schedule impact analysis for any potential delays or changes.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive schedule reports, dashboards, and progress updates to senior management, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and highlight schedule deviations, risks, and opportunities in a timely manner.

3. Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, and Quantity Surveyors to ensure schedule accuracy and resource alignment.
  • Lead regular schedule review meetings with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Interface with clients and consultants to present schedule status and obtain approvals.

4. Risk Management & Mitigation:

  • Proactively identify schedule-related risks and propose effective mitigation plans.
  • Assess the impact of change orders and variations on the project timeline.
  • Develop "what-if" scenarios to support project decision-making.

5. Best Practices & System Management:

  • Ensure all planning and scheduling activities comply with company procedures and industry best practices.
  • Maintain the integrity of the Primavera P6 database for the project.

Mandatory Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling within the construction industry, with a significant portion focused on large-scale, complex projects (e.g., industrial plants, pharmaceutical facilities, or data centers).
  • Technical Skills (Compulsory):

    • Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
    • Proficient in MS Project and MS Office Suite (especially Advanced Excel).
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and project controls principles (Earned Value Management - EVM).
  • Language: Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in Mandarin or other languages is an advantage.
