Mechanical Manager
Job Description:
Position Overview
The Mechanical Manager reports directly to the Senior Technical Manager and is responsible for overseeing all mechanical operations for a multi-building facility complex. This is a critical leadership role responsible for managing mechanical systems, teams, vendors, and ensuring optimal operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead the mechanical department team overseeing capacity planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance
- Manage and supervise team members, subject matter experts, external partners, vendors, suppliers, and consultants according to operational and business requirements
- Make critical operational decisions with focus on optimal benefits and organizational alignment
- Drive team performance toward company goals, ensuring stability, profitability, and productivity
Operations & Technical Management
- Oversee all mechanical systems including HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, utilities management, water supply systems, fire protection, diesel supply, and piping distribution
- Provide practical engineering solutions and technical guidance to operations teams in sustaining data center specifications and industrial standards
- Improve operational procedures, ensure compliance with audit requirements and industry standards
- Establish, revise, and support procedures, processes, and operational documentation according to industry best practices and company policy
- Ensure all systems, designs, components, and materials meet safety standards, codes, and maintenance requirements
System Transition & Commissioning
- Lead transition from construction to operations mode, working closely with project teams on testing and commissioning
- Generate defect lists, manage rectification actions, and ensure all handover processes are properly documented
Continuous Improvement & Optimization
- Spearhead continuous improvement programs for mechanical system enhancements in stability, robustness, and reliability
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance system performance and reduce operational costs
- Derive improvement plans for critical equipment and processes through data analysis and trending
- Generate engineering solutions for energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives
Incident Management & Safety
- Guide incident investigation, follow-up actions, and prepare reports for senior management review
- Lead drills, tabletop exercises, and simulations for equipment failure response and emergency procedures
- Support environment, safety, and health activities, maintaining optimal workplace conditions and system integrity
Development & Support
- Provide training to staff and operations teams according to company development programs
- Provide technical support to project management team, advising on specifications and design concerns
- Participate in integrated system tests and system handover processes
- Availability for odd hours, off-days, on-site presence, and emergency response as required
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
- Minimum 13 years of related working experience in critical facility operations
- Minimum 7 years' hands-on experience in data center or high-critical facility operations
- Demonstrated experience in HVAC systems management, including chillers and cooling towers
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical systems and conducting root cause analysis
- Strong understanding of mechanical system design, operations, and maintenance standards
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, standards, and industry best practices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and facility management systems
Preferred Background
- Experience from semiconductor, data center, or high-critical manufacturing facilities
- Operations-focused background (not project/construction focused)
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience with technical teams
- Track record of operational improvements and cost optimization
