Client Overview: Our client is a project management consultancy providing professional project management, construction coordination, and project delivery support across Malaysia and the region, with significant experience in diverse sectors including mission-critical and hyperscale Data Centre projects.

Role Summary:

We are seeking experienced and detail-oriented Project Planners to join our client's project team in Gelang Patah, Johor. The successful candidates will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, monitoring, and reporting project schedules to ensure the timely and effective delivery of complex projects. This role demands strong planning and scheduling capabilities, excellent coordination skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders. The Project Planner will be crucial in tracking progress, identifying potential delays, supporting mitigation strategies, and ensuring accurate reporting throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Prepare essential planning documents including baseline schedules, recovery schedules, lookahead programmes, progress updates, and various project planning reports.
  • Monitor project progress diligently against approved schedules, proactively identifying delays, risks, constraints, and critical path issues.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, site teams, contractors, and stakeholders to gather progress updates and validate project timelines.
  • Conduct schedule impact analyses and assist in the preparation of delay analyses, mitigation plans, and recovery strategies.
  • Track key milestones, deliverables, dependencies, project constraints, and compare planned versus actual progress.
  • Support the project team in the detailed planning of manpower, resources, work sequences, and construction activities.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure all project activities are fully aligned with the overarching project programme.
  • Generate regular progress reports, including weekly and monthly updates, dashboards, S-curves, lookahead schedules, and presentation materials.
  • Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, coordination meetings, and site discussions as required.
  • Timely highlight planning concerns, schedule deviations, and potential bottlenecks to the management team.
  • Provide support for project claims, extension of time assessments, and contractual programme-related submissions when necessary.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of planning processes, reporting formats, and overall project controls practices.

Requirements:

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduation working experience, with a strong background in project planning, project controls, construction scheduling, or project coordination.
  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 (preferably version 15 or above) and Microsoft Project (preferably 2013 or above).
  • Sound understanding of the project lifecycle, construction sequencing, milestones, dependencies, and critical path methodology.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret project drawings, work programmes, technical documents, and construction schedules.
  • Proven experience in preparing various project progress reports, lookahead plans, S-curves, dashboards, and schedule updates.

  • Excellent coordination and communication skills, enabling effective liaison with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organised, and proactive in supporting project execution and progress monitoring.
  • Willingness to be based full-time on-site in Gelang Patah, Johor.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience (Added Advantages):

  • Experience in Data Centre projects, MEP works, infrastructure, railway, civil works, or systems packages.
  • Familiarity with drone progress reporting, BIM coordination, or digital project reporting.
  • P6 Advanced Certification, PMP qualification, or other 4IR-related micro-certifications.
