Key Responsibilities of the Role
The Plant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Nubariya plant to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production and dispatch of fertilizer products in line with approved production plans, quality requirements, and budgeted costs.
The role ensures effective coordination of people, equipment, materials, utilities, contractors,and site services so that production targets, quality standards, delivery commitments, and cost objectives are consistently achieved.
The Plant Manager leads daily plant execution through Production, Maintenance, Warehouse,and site support functions, resolves operational issues, and escalates risks or constraints to the Site Director as required.
HESQ
- Adhere to applicable Egyptian legislation, Our Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HESQ) policies, and the Golden Rules.
- Ensure that all plant operations comply with HSE, environmental, quality, and lab release requirements.
- Fully respect and enforce stop-work or stop-production decisions issued by HESQ, Quality, or Lab functions.
- Ensure incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated in line with company requirements.
- Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions following safety or quality incidents.
- Serve as a role model for safety compliance, operational discipline, and safe leadership behavior.
People Management
- Lead and managedepartmentsthrough their respective managers.
- Ensure clear accountability, performance expectations, and disciplined execution across all shifts.
- Enforce attendance, discipline, and standard work fairly and consistently.
- Identify capability gaps and coordinate training and staffing needs with HR.
Operations
- Own the day-to-day operational performance of the plant against approved production plans (safety, volume, quality,cost, and delivery).
- Chair the daily operations meeting to review safety alerts, production performance, downtime, risks, and agreed actions.
- Ensure effective shift handovers and enforcement of standard operating proceduresthrough the department managersto maintain stable and predictable plant operation.
- Approve and align weekly and daily production plans prepared by the Production Manager, ensuring feasibility and resource availability.
- Remove operational constraints impacting execution by coordinating actions across Production, Maintenance,Warehouse, and support functions.
- Lead production through the Production Manager by setting priorities and holding accountability, without direct shift supervision.
- Monitor operating costs, challenge inefficiencies, and work with Finance and Purchasing on cost variances, service contracts, and energy consumption without compromising safety or quality.
External Relations & Governance
- Represent the plant in interactions with local authorities, regulators, and external auditors.Coordinate site inspections, audits, and official visits, and ensure timely closure of findings.
- Maintain operational inputs to site registrations, permits, and renewals with support from HESQ, HR, and Finance.Act as the primary on-site point of contact for operational issues with external parties, including utilities and
- community stakeholders where required.
- Escalate major incidents, regulatory risks, repeated breakdowns, or production threats to the Site Director with clear facts and recovery plans.
Education, Experience, and Personal Attributes
Education
Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience
- Ideally with supervisory experience gained within a similar production environment.
- Minimum 10 years experience in manufacturing operations within a process industry (chemical, fertilizer,petrochemical, or similar).
- At least 5 years in a plant, production, or operations leadership role with accountability for safety, output, cost, and people.
- Strong experience working in multi-shift environments.
- Proven exposure to Egyptian regulatory compliance, inspections, and audits.
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities, contractors, and shutdowns.
- High level of computer literacy (ERP systems, MS Office, reporting tools).

- High level of safety awareness and a good understanding of the Health and Safety and other attendant regulations.
- Highly organized, with the ability to effectively prioritise and plan the workload of self and others.
- Good communication skills–both written and verbal.
