Infrastructure Administrator (AS400)

 Job Description:

As an AS400 Admin you will be instrumental in setting the direction and strategy for the Midrange AS400 infrastructure support across the globe and in designing and building solutions to automate the deployment, configuration, and upgrade of these systems. Teamwork is pivotal to our success; it plays a key role.

  • Create and manage the global Platform Build, infrastructure third party products and a roadmap for future builds. Partner with the service Delivery teams to ensure timely deployment.
  • Work alongside packaging teams to develop and update platform specific emulator software to ensure continued support from product vendors.
  • Publish roadmaps of Platform Builds and product updates and partner with regional service delivery teams for rollout deployment support and to gather special regional requirements.
  • Verify and update engineering documentation. MR Attachment 2.3-B Midrange Services SOW
  • Develop and provide a common build for AS/400 client access (e.g. DTP) and a roadmap for future builds. Partner with regional service delivery team for rollout deployment support and to gather special regional requirements.
  • Perform hardware and software certification.
  • Perform platform and security Engineering (OS, Middleware, Hardware).
  • Investigate Incidents and Problems that require an in-depth technical understanding.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of the environment to assist in service Outage investigations and support availability management processes, in general.
  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement, through knowledge management and constant skill review.
  • Educate and train the operational staff in the use of analysis tools and processes where appropriate.
  • Plan for changes in capacity requirements.
  • Provide evaluations of new tools and technologies.
  • Perform testing and benchmarking of new infrastructure or tools prior to deployment into production.
  • Create handover documentation, training, diagnostic scripts, and operational procedures for the operations group.


Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills for working with developers, support teams, and management.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willingness to provide after-hours support/on-call rotation.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (often preferred).
  • 35 years of experience with AS/400 administration or related system administration.
  • Certifications (optional but valuable): IBM Certified System Administrator IBM i / ITIL Foundation (for IT service management knowledge)
