Job Overview
The Sales Manager leads the sales team to achieve sales goals and drive growth by building strong relationships with new and existing customers. Key responsibilities include developing and executing sales strategies, managing daily operations, providing training and motivation, and optimizing team performance. The role also involves customer relationship management, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and analysing market trends to improve sales efforts and maximize results.
Business Knowledge
- Sales Strategies: Understanding of various sales methods (e.g., consultative selling, Omni-channel sales, B2B sales, upselling) and how to apply them to different markets or customer segments.
- Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of the products or services being sold, including features, benefits, and how to address customer needs.
- Market and Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with industry trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activities to make strategic decisions and stay competitive.
- Financial Acumen: Ability to understand and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial metrics to ensure sales targets align with business objectives.
- Customer Segmentation: Knowledge of how to segment customers based on demographics, buying behaviour, or other criteria to tailor sales efforts effectively.
- Sales Metrics: Familiarity with key performance indicators (KPIs) such as conversion rates, average deal size, sales cycle length, and customer acquisition costs.
- Technology Tools: Knowledge of sales and marketing tools, CRM software, analytics platforms, and communication tools to optimize team efficiency and sales operations.
- Marketing Alignment: Understanding of how sales and marketing departments collaborate to drive demand generation and lead conversion.
- Legal and Compliance: Awareness of legal aspects of sales contracts, negotiations, and ensuring the sales process follows company policies and industry regulations.
- Talent Development: Knowledge of coaching, training, and performance evaluation techniques to help develop team members and enhance their skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12
- B Comm. Degree/ Studying towards a relevant Business Degree or Diploma
- In-depth knowledge of sales management
- Minimum of 10 years of sales experience
- Minimum of 5 years sales management experience
