Job Overview

The Counter Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sales counter, leading and developing the counter sales team, ensuring exceptional customer service, and driving sales performance. The incumbent will provide technical product guidance, support staff in achieving sales targets, manage customer relationships, and ensure operational excellence within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

The role requires a hands-on leader with extensive tyre industry experience, a strong sales background, and the ability to motivate a team while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and profitability.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Mandatory)
  • Sales, Business Management or Retail Management qualification (preferred)
  • Minimum 5-10 years' experience in a tyre sales environment (Mandatory)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience supervising or leading a sales team (Mandatory)
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets
  • Strong knowledge of tyre products, fitment applications, vehicle requirements, and industry best practices
  • Experience working within a high-performance, target-driven sales culture
  • Experience in customer relationship management and complaint resolution

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of the tyre industry, products, brands, and market trends
  • Strong leadership and team management capability
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop sales consultants to improve performance
  • Demonstrates a strong customer service orientation and ability to build long-term customer relationships
  • Capable of managing customer escalations and resolving complaints effectively
  • Strong sales, negotiation, and closing skills
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of margins, profitability, and sales performance metrics
  • Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise workloads within a high-volume environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments

  • Professional telephone etiquette and customer engagement skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Fluent in English, bilingual in an additional South African language advantageous

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily counter sales operations.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the counter sales team to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Monitor individual and team performance against established KPIs.
  • Ensure customers receive professional, accurate, and timely service.
  • Provide expert advice on tyre products, applications, and related services.
  • Manage customer enquiries, quotations, orders, and after-sales support.
  • Resolve customer concerns and escalations promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor stock availability and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to meet customer requirements.
  • Identify sales opportunities and drive upselling and cross-selling initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Promote a positive, accountable, and high-performance sales culture.
  • Analyse sales trends and provide recommendations to improve sales performance and customer service.
  • Conduct ongoing coaching and performance feedback sessions with team members.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and business partners.
