Video Engineer
Job Description:
The Video Engineer will take ownership of our client's video capability, leading the design, optimisation, and evolution of video surveillance and analytics across the organisation. This role focuses on ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of large-scale video platforms by evaluating, implementing, and enhancing best-in-class video management and analytics solutions.
Working closely with technology, product, and software development teams, the Video Engineer will act as the subject matter expert, driving innovation and ensuring our client remains at the forefront of video surveillance and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Video Systems & Analytics Optimisation
- Analyse, optimise, and enhance existing Video Management Systems (VMS).
- Evaluate and improve the effectiveness and accuracy of video analytics solutions.
- Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of video platforms.
- Continuously refine system configurations for optimal output and efficiency.
Strategy & Innovation
- Conduct market and competitor analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend leading video surveillance and analytics technologies.
- Identify and implement solutions for vertical-specific use cases (e.g. retail, manufacturing, public safety).
- Stay up to date with emerging trends in video surveillance, analytics, and AI.
Technical Leadership & Integration
- Act as the internal subject matter expert for video surveillance and analytics.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with development teams on system integrations and enhancements.
- Support the evolution and optimisation of our client's video platform architecture.
Operational Enablement
- Improve operational efficiency and effectiveness of video systems at scale.
- Train and mentor operational teams on best practices for video system configuration and analytics usage.
- Support product and sales teams in developing commercially viable offerings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Information Technology or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in an IT or video surveillance environment.
- Proven experience implementing and optimising enterprise-grade Video Management Systems.
- Proven experience with enterprise video analytics platforms.
- Experience working with IP-based video surveillance systems.
- Strong understanding of the video surveillance landscape, including capabilities and limitations.
- Exposure to computer vision technologies (e.g. YOLO, OpenCV, deep learning) is advantageous.
Systems & Technical Proficiency
- Experience with leading VMS platforms (e.g. Milestone XProtect, HikCentral Professional, or similar).
- Experience with video analytics platforms (e.g. iSentry, Deep Alert, or similar).
- Solid understanding of Windows and Linux server environments.
- Strong grasp of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, routing, switching).
