Overview

A leading company in the pet industry, our client specializes in importing, warehousing, and distributing high-quality pet food and accessories throughout South Africa. Serving a diverse range of customers including online retailers, veterinary clinics, and pet specialty stores, the company has been a trusted name for over 13 years. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working Hours: Typically 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. Extended hours may be required, with a rotating schedule for lock-up duties in coordination with the Distribution Supervisor.
  • Qualifications: Preference for candidates with relevant qualifications.
  • Experience: Proven track record in warehouse management, with expertise in operating and serving as the Super-User of a Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Core Competencies and Duties

  • Warehouse Operations:

    • Receipt and Dispatch Areas: Structuring and managing processes.
    • Pick Face Management: Effective management of shelving, mid-tier racking, and heavy-duty racking.
    • Dispatch Staging: Ensuring quick and efficient loading of vehicles.
    • Root Cause Analysis: Investigating issues to improve pick and delivery accuracy.
    • Fleet Management: Optimizing vehicle use and efficiency.

Warehouse Management System (WMS):

  • Act as the WMS custodian, understanding daily operations and system intricacies.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Conduct thorough root cause analysis of picking or delivery failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Inbound Receipting:

    • Manage all aspects of supplier order receipting, ensuring accuracy and correct putaway.
    • Oversee reverse logistics for customer returns and manage short-dated inventory for alternative sales channels.
  • Outbound Order Preparation:

    • Oversee the picking, checking, staging, and dispatch of small customer orders and inter-branch transfers.
  • Distribution:

    • Optimize fleet for last-mile delivery, increase on-time delivery, and reduce failed deliveries.
    • Understand routing and scheduling, ensure Proof of Delivery (POD) administration, and manage fleet costs.
  • People and Capacity Management:

    • Foster strong team cohesion and performance.
    • Handle discipline and performance management.
    • Optimize the use of subcontractors to meet capacity requirements.
  • Metrics:

    • Establish and monitor operational metrics to measure success against targets.
  • Health and Safety:

    • Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Act as the SHE Site Representative, ensuring all site compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Facility Management:

    • Ensure the warehouse and office facilities are well-maintained and fit for purpose, including the operability of solar and backup systems.
