Oversee the inbound logistics operations, focusing on strategic planning, optimal arrival management, and operational efficiency. Your role is crucial in maximizing return on investment and ensuring that service level agreements, equipment, and materials are effectively managed.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Logistics Planning and Management:

    • Oversee the planning functions for inbound logistics.
    • Manage inbound capacity and material requirements for road, rail, and port logistics.
    • Coordinate inbound loads with production facilities to ensure accurate arrival times.
    • Handle daily dispatching tasks and manage weekly throughput rates, addressing any deviations.
    • Ensure steel is moved from receiving to bin stock in line with agreed service levels.
    • Optimize offloading and stock recording by following best practices and minimizing steps.
    • Monitor operational performance, ensuring staff meet KPI targets and take ownership of performance.
    • Minimize damages and stock losses.
    • Ensure timely, quality delivery of materials and semi-finished products to plants, and finished products to customers.
    • Oversee cross-docking functions as needed.
    • Manage transportation and warehousing services to meet regional requirements.
  • System and Technology Oversight:

    • Act as a TMS functional super-user, managing system setup, training, and usage.
    • Monitor and implement new supply chain technologies.
    • Collaborate with product teams to enhance systems and operational efficiency, aiming for lower delivery costs.
  • Carrier and Supplier Management:

    • Negotiate carrier contracts and ensure compliance.
    • Develop and review carrier scorecards and business reviews.
    • Utilize category management and industry analytics for sourcing.
    • Lead third-party partnerships to manage increased inbound logistics demands.
  • Performance Monitoring and Improvement:

    • Develop strategic delivery models for current and future markets.
    • Manage KPIs, including empty kilometers, fuel costs, cost per kilometer, payload, and on-time delivery.
    • Implement process improvements and track revenue and performance results.
    • Ensure efficient resource management and adherence to best practices in inbound logistics.
  • Resource and Budget Management:

    • Manage capacity and material requirements from trucks to storage.
    • Oversee budgeting and P&L responsibilities.
    • Control resource allocation within the area of responsibility.
    • Direct, train, and manage the logistics workforce.
  • Customer and Compliance Responsibilities:

    • Resolve customer issues related to service failures.
    • Ensure compliance with divisional and legislative requirements.
    • Implement and adhere to OHSA policies and safety standards.
    • Promote a safety culture and manage risk inspections and reporting.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:

    • Coordinate with inventory management and outbound functions for optimal stock availability and customer experience.
    • Analyze complex issues, developing actions or recommendations for sustainable solutions.
    • Participate in meetings to stay informed about company needs and logistics industry trends.
    • Represent the company in customer meetings and calls.

Nature of Position:

  • Permanent role

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Certification such as APICS is advantageous.
  • Up to 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in operational leadership or specialist roles.
