The Manager of Outbound Logistics is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the movement of goods from the company to its customers. This role involves developing and implementing logistics strategies, managing outbound operations, and ensuring efficient order fulfilment. Key responsibilities include maintaining supplier and logistics provider relationships, managing reverse logistics, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and adhering to company policies. The position also focuses on ensuring timely delivery of finished goods at optimal costs, managing inventory, tracking consignments, administering transport contracts, and ensuring workplace safety in steel handling.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Outbound Logistics Management:

    • Develop and execute logistics strategies to ensure cost-effective and efficient outbound operations.
    • Plan and oversee the transportation of finished goods both on-site and off-site.
    • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products, managing the full order fulfillment lifecycle from sourcing to shipping.
    • Coordinate with Central Planning and production departments to align with market requirements.
    • Monitor export orders and dispatches to external processing centres.
    • Manage buffer systems and work centre scheduling for production.
    • Oversee all transportation activities, ensuring accurate and timely deliveries.
  • Order Fulfilment:

    • Oversee the order fulfilment process, coordinating with fleet operations or courier services to meet customer demands.
    • Manage the interaction between inbound and outbound logistics as required.
  • Reverse Logistics:

    • Oversee the return process for products, ensuring compliance with return policies.
    • Provide transparency on product movement through the reverse supply chain and manage reverse logistics efficiently.
  • System and Technology Oversight:

    • Serve as a TMS functional super-user, managing system setup, training, and proper usage.
    • Monitor developments and implement new technologies in supply chain logistics.
    • Collaborate with product teams to drive system and operational improvements, aiming for enhanced delivery efficiency and reduced costs.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management:

    • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and logistics providers.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and logistics partners to optimize terms and service levels.
    • Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers and transporters, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Performance Monitoring and Improvement:

    • Analyze logistics performance data to identify improvement areas and implement necessary changes.
    • Track materials from raw state to finished goods throughout production stages.
    • Oversee in-house production, raw materials, and dispatch planning to meet monthly targets.
    • Lead production and productivity improvements.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and implement standard procedures at production sites and workplaces.
    • Ensure all logistics activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Resource and Budget Management:

    • Lead and manage the logistics team, providing training, coaching, and development to ensure high performance.
    • Manage logistics capacity and resources within the area of responsibility.
    • Oversee budgeting and P&L responsibilities, planning and managing the logistics budget in line with financial targets.
    • Ensure effective control and allocation of resources.
  • Customer and Warehouse Management:

    • Monitor dispatches for various customers and warehouses, ensuring order compliance.
    • Collaborate with return distributors and distribution facilities.
    • Develop and implement returns management policies and procedures.
    • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through effective communication and resolution of logistics-related issues.

Nature of Position:

  • Permanent role
  • Availability for extended hours during peak periods and seasons

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as APICS is advantageous.
  • Up to 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in operational leadership or specialist roles.
