Supervisor (Rolling Mill)

 Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Production Setter/Controller to join our manufacturing team. This role requires a technically skilled professional who can optimize production efficiency while leading and developing a team to consistently meet demanding production targets. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical expertise in machine setting, strong leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

Production Management & Optimization

  • Take ownership of production output, ensuring all targets and deadlines are consistently met or exceeded
  • Develop and implement strategic changeover schedules to minimize downtime and maximize machine utilization
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, implementing corrective actions to optimize workflow
  • Plan production runs in collaboration with the Factory Manager to ensure seamless operations
  • Maintain comprehensive production records and prepare regular performance reports

Technical Machine Operations

  • Set up and adjust cams and strokes on automatic roll forming machines with precision
  • Configure and calibrate tooling to exact specifications, ensuring optimal performance and product quality
  • Program and troubleshoot automatic feeders for various production requirements
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs
  • Demonstrate expertise with Olma and Fischer machines, as well as other roll forming equipment as required

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and motivate a team of machine operators and production staff
  • Delegate tasks effectively based on individual capabilities and production priorities
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Identify training needs and support skills development within the team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement

Quality Assurance & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations
  • Conduct regular safety audits and address potential hazards immediately
  • Maintain quality standards throughout all production processes
  • Implement and monitor quality control checkpoints
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues promptly, implementing preventative measures

Collaboration & Communication

  • Liaise effectively with the Tool Room to ensure timely availability of required tooling
  • Communicate production status, challenges, and requirements to the Factory Manager and CEO
  • Coordinate with procurement and inventory teams regarding material availability
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to support overall business objectives

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in scheduled stocktakes, ensuring accuracy and accountability
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the CEO and Factory Manager

Required Qualifications

Essential Education & Certification

  • Valid Trade Certificate as a Tool Setter (mandatory)
  • Current health and safety certifications as required by industry regulations

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in a setter, controller, or operator role within roll forming operations
  • Demonstrated expertise with Olma and Fischer roll forming machines
  • Track record of successfully meeting or exceeding production targets
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience strongly preferred

Technical Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of cam and stroke settings on automatic machines
  • Precision tooling setup and calibration skills
  • Proficiency in programming automatic feeders
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Understanding of production planning and scheduling principles

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Factory Manager, with dotted-line accountability to the CEO for strategic production matters.
