Salary: £60,000.00 P/A (DOE)

About the Role
As a Fleet Engineer/HGV Mechanic, youll play a crucial role in maintaining the performance and safety of a busy fleet. Your day-to-day duties will include servicing, maintaining, and repairing Mercedes trucks to ensure they remain roadworthy and reliable. From diagnosing complex faults to performing routine inspections and emergency repairs, your expertise will keep the fleet operating efficiently and minimize vehicle downtime.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • Every other Saturday morning
  • 50 hours per week (with flexibility for occasional overtime or callouts)
  • Based in Devon, covering the Southwest region

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled maintenance, servicing, and repairs on Mercedes trucks and other HGVs
  • Perform detailed vehicle safety checks and ensure legal compliance
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
  • Provide roadside and on-site breakdown support
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections and repairs
  • Work with fleet managers to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
  • Order and fit necessary parts to complete jobs promptly

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience as an HGV Mechanic
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Strong knowledge of HGV electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
  • Full UK driving licence and HGV licence
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations in vehicle maintenance
