Job Description:

Job Title: Residential Surveyor
Salary: £50,000£60,000 per annum (OTE 100k)
Location: Sussex / Southeast (office base: Hove, East Sussex)

We’re supporting an established, independent surveying practice in the South East who are looking for a Residential Surveyor to join their team. If you enjoy getting stuck into detailed inspections, producing clear, honest reports, and working in an environment where quality actually matters, this will be worth your time.

About the role

This position centres around carrying out surveys, Level 3 Building surveys, party wall work, and insurance-related inspections. You’ll assess a wide range of properties from modern builds to older homes with quirks and history and produce reports that people can genuinely understand.

The role also involves occasional Red Book valuations, defect investigations, and supporting clients through their findings in a straightforward, practical way. You won’t be expected to rush through work; the focus is accuracy, clarity, and taking the time needed to give clients something they can rely on.

They operate across Sussex and the wider South East and keep their team tight-knit. You won’t be lost in a large corporate structure you’ll work closely with the surveyors and office team, with the freedom to do your job properly without unnecessary box-ticking.

Key duties

  • Carry out residential surveys.

  • Investigate defects such as damp, subsidence, structural movement, or poor alterations.

  • Produce clear, well-structured reports with photos and practical recommendations.

  • Complete occasional valuations.

  • Speak with clients to explain findings and answer any questions.

  • Attend internal and external training as required and share learning with the wider team when requested.

Key requirements

  • Must be AssocRICS qualified (MRICS/FRICS preferred)

  • Strong understanding of building pathology and common defects.

  • Confident in producing readable, detailed reports without overcomplicating things.

  • Good communicator, able to explain technical issues in plain English.

  • Organised, reliable, and capable of managing your own workload across the region.
