General Manager - Coal Mining and Logistics - East Kalimantan (Open for Expat)

Position Overview
The General Manager will be responsible for leading and managing all mining, logistics, operational, commercial, and support functions of the company to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable coal production and transportation activities. The incumbent will drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, cost optimization, stakeholder management, and sustainable business growth while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and corporate governance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead and oversee all coal mining operations, including mine planning, drilling, blasting, overburden removal, coal extraction, hauling, stockpiling, crushing, and barging activities.
- Ensure achievement of annual production, stripping ratio, coal quality, and logistics targets.
- Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across mining and logistics operations.
Logistics & Supply Chain Management
- Manage end-to-end coal logistics operations, including hauling roads, coal terminals, jetty operations, barging, and vessel loading.
- Ensure reliable and cost-effective transportation of coal from mine site to customers.
- Optimize fleet utilization and logistics infrastructure to maximize operational efficiency.
- Coordinate closely with customers, contractors, shipping companies, and port authorities.
- Health, Safety, Environment & Community (HSEC)
- Champion a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with Indonesian mining regulations, environmental standards, and international best practices.
- Lead investigations of significant incidents and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain positive relationships with local communities, government agencies, and regulatory bodies.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor financial performance, operational costs, and profitability.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and productivity improvements.
- Support commercial negotiations, contract management, and business development initiatives.
- Stakeholder & Government Relations
- Maintain strong relationships with government authorities, including mining regulators and local government stakeholders.
- Represent the company in discussions with partners, contractors, customers, and community leaders.
- Ensure all permits, licenses, and regulatory obligations remain valid and compliant.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary management team.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
- Drive workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development programs.
- Manage expatriate and local workforce integration effectively.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to long-term mine development plans and expansion projects.
- Evaluate new business opportunities, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- Provide regular operational and financial reports to senior management and shareholders.
General Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
Master's Degree (MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification) is highly preferred.
Experience
Minimum 15–20 years of experience in coal mining operations, including at least 8 years in senior management or executive leadership roles.
Proven track record managing large-scale open-pit coal mining operations with integrated logistics functions.
Experience overseeing annual coal production of at least 5–10 million tonnes is preferred.
Experience working in Indonesia or Southeast Asia mining operations is highly desirable.
Previous expatriate assignment experience in remote locations is advantageous.

Language Requirements
Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
Bahasa Indonesia proficiency is advantageous but not mandatory.
Additional regional language skills are considered a plus.
Other Requirements
Willingness to be based at a remote mining site in East Kalimantan.
Ability to work on an 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off roster.
Strong commitment to safety leadership and operational excellence.
Valid international driver's license and passport.
Medically fit for remote site operations.
