Mechanical Engineer / Piping, Asset Integrity & Pressure Equipment

 Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with a deep background in piping and mechanical systems design, inspection testing, preventive maintenance, and asset integrity management. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting both capital project execution and operational reliability in heavy industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, LNG, and renewables.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring the safe, efficient, and code-compliant operation of a wide range of mechanical systems including piping, pumps, pressure vessels, storage tanks, compressors, and rotating equipment through all phases of the asset lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and review piping and mechanical designs, including 3D modeling, layout development, and constructability evaluations for new builds and facility upgrades.

  • Develop Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Preventive Maintenance programs, Construction Work Packages (CWPs), and condition monitoring documentation.

  • Oversee inspection, testing, and non-destructive testing (NDT) activities for pressure-containing equipment, ensuring compliance with API and ASME codes and standards.

  • Perform fitness-for-service assessments, wall thickness evaluations, and corrosion rate calculations for pressure vessels and storage tanks.

  • Interpret and apply industry standards such as API 570, 579, 580, 581, 650, 653, and ASME Section VIII & B31.3 for pressure integrity evaluations.

  • Develop and manage Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) strategies for fixed equipment to optimize reliability, compliance, and cost-efficiency.

  • Implement and maintain asset integrity and reliability programs using tools like PCMS or similar platforms.

  • Support the repurposing, re-rating, and modification of mechanical systems to meet changing operational demands.

  • Collaborate with vendors, engineering contractors, and internal stakeholders for material selection, technical reviews, and procurement alignment.

  • Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup, with a focus on mechanical and rotating equipment.

  • Lead or support preventive maintenance planning and execution across piping and pressure equipment systems.

  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes, hazard identification (HAZID), and safety and risk assessments.

  • Prepare technical documentation including SPIRs, FMRs, and preservation checklists for warehouse inventory compliance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (PE/Chartered Engineer status preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical/piping engineering, with a strong focus on inspection, maintenance, and pressure systems in oil & gas, petrochemical, or renewable energy industries.

  • Extensive knowledge of API and ASME standards, including but not limited to API 570, 579, 580, 581, 650, 653, ASME Section VIII, B31.3, etc.

  • Proven experience in developing and executing preventive maintenance and inspection testing programs for pressure vessels and storage tanks.

  • Familiarity with asset integrity software such as PCMS, and RBI methodologies.

  • Demonstrated success in field-based engineering, including troubleshooting, start-up, and optimization of mechanical systems.

  • Proficient in software such as AutoCAD/Plant 3D, MS Project, and relevant engineering analysis tools.

  • Strong communication, technical writing, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Attributes
  • Experience working directly with owner/operators in refinery, LNG, or upstream/midstream settings.

  • Comfortable operating in both office and field environments, including turnaround or shutdown scenarios.

  • Practical knowledge of welding, materials selection, and corrosion mechanisms in high-risk environments.
