Vehicle Technician

 Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Vehicle Technician to work alongside a team of skilled technicians to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and serviceable, supporting the delivery of reliable transport services while meeting company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximise individual productivity by working efficiently to complete at least four vehicle inspections per day, allocating approximately two hours per inspection.
  • Adopt a right first time approach to maintenance while remaining flexible and responsive to changing maintenance requirements.
  • Perform high-quality vehicle repairs in accordance with approved service schedules and work instructions.
  • Carry out tasks assigned by the Workshop Planning Manager and Engineering Supervisors, ensuring all work is completed within the required timelines.
  • Diagnose vehicle faults and determine the most effective repair and maintenance solutions.
  • Stay updated on new fleet technologies and attend relevant training when required.
  • Contribute proactively to team performance to ensure vehicles are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Respond to Operations Control requests for on-road repair assistance when necessary.
  • Conduct first-line maintenance for CFMS and BTS equipment in line with the maintenance schedule.
  • Ensure all parts used for maintenance are properly recorded and booked out.
  • Utilise parts in a cost-effective manner and report any concerns to the Engineering Supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with Operations Supervisors, Bus Captains, and the Engineering team to support reliable maintenance operations.
  • Follow all company Health and Safety procedures when working within the Engineering department.
  • Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times and safety equipment is used when operating machinery.
  • Provide training and guidance to other employees, including trainees and apprentices, on engineering procedures and processes.
  • Perform additional duties and participate in training or development activities as assigned by the Engineering Supervisor or Workshop Planning Manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and security within the workshop and work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with all workshop procedures, safe work practices, and operational guidelines.
  • Mentor and supervise assigned team members when required.
  • Support a safe working environment by ensuring zero industrial accidents and full compliance with statutory and government regulations.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts and weekends, as required for the role.
  • Possess relevant trade certifications related to the responsibilities of the position, with at least a NITEC in Automotive Technology, Mechatronics, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Basic engineering knowledge with familiarity in vehicle components and parts.
  • Experience in using computerised inventory or stock management systems.
  • Hold and maintain a valid forklift operator licence.
  • Possess a valid Class 4A / 4 / 5 driving licence, or be willing to obtain one within 12 months of employment if not currently held.
