About the job R&D Technologist (Anti-Foul Coating)

The Technologist in the Fouling Control coatings R&D team will assist in creating new test methods and enhancing current ones for evaluating the performance of these coatings. 


This includes:

1. Developing fresh test methods for better understanding how Fouling Control coatings work, both Antifouling and Foul Release types.

2. Finding solutions to improve current test methods by gathering ideas for modifying existing designs or creating new ones.

3. Grasping the engineering aspects of new equipment or processes and effectively communicating and collaborating with colleagues in Akzonobel, third-party partners, and contractors.

4. Understanding the needs of external customers for the Fouling Control coating, and seeking clarification when necessary.

5. Identifying potential risks and obstacles, and offering recommendations to successfully implement the new or improved test method.

6. Implementing tests to support existing products and processes, and recognizing areas for improvement, suggesting relevant activities or projects.

7. Planning and coordinating experiments, interpreting results, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions and recommendations within established timeframes, while ensuring the technical team comprehends their significance.

8. Organizing and assessing larger-scale trials, such as field testing on a raft.

9. Taking responsibility for creating lab experiment reports and outlining relevant procedures.

10. Identifying and aiding in the digitalization and automation of processes.

11. Demonstrating an understanding of the intellectual property associated with the developed test methods.

12. Maintaining a safe working environment, including participation in the 5S team and supporting health and safety engagement audits and BBS processes.

Qualifications and Background

Holds a Bachelors/Masters Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
Brings 3-5 years of pertinent experience in roles such as design, application engineering, or a related field.
Possesses a track record in technology or product development projects, with a focus on paint testing.
Familiarity with interpreting 3D drawings is advantageous.
Demonstrates adeptness in practical, analytical, and laboratory skills. Proficiency in the design of experiments is a plus.
Exhibits strong interpersonal abilities.
