Lead Linux System Administrator

Base: £175+

Bonus: £75k+

Our client a leading Financial Technology firm. Is in need of a Lead Linux Systems Administrator.

You will be joining the team in a Senior position.



The key responsibilities include: Coordinating the design of their data center, selecting the right hardware, and tuning operating systems, storage, and networks. You will manage orchestration and observability, including writing software for the fair and efficient distribution of work on their compute cluster. 

This a full-stack team building one of the world's most powerful supercomputers, which underpins all research for trading - huge impact, in a small team, with enormous resources.


The ideal candidate should have:

  • Previous direct experience of high end Linux System Administration in a similar setting with large-scale compute, with an expectation of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant setting.
  • Lots of Linux automation. Heavy scripting in Bash and Python to automate. Plus points you can work with C/Golang/Rust.
  • NETWORKING:
    • Have you got experience working with network switching / routing, would you know how to build a distributed network across a large cluster?
  • An excellent working knowledge of large-scale distributed systems.
  • Clear working knowledge and hands-on experience in computer networks, covering design, configuration, monitoring and automation.
  • Strong coding skills, with a preference for recent exposure to Python and proficiency in at least one statically typed language.
  • Are you comfortable working at exabyte and petabyte scale in terms of storage?
  • Your expertise should extend to large-scale infrastructure management, utilising code for hardware performance evaluation, automated builds, patching, application deployment, domain environment management (DHCP/DNS/data locality, etc.), and observability (monitoring and alerting) in storage.
  • Utilising knowledge from multiple layers of the technology stack (network/hardware/OS/software) to produce an optimal result.
