Salary: £45-65k

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Linux/Unix Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing level 3 technical support and engineering expertise in Linux/Unix environments. This role requires a strong foundation in software, hardware, and networking principles, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.  It is a very senior role and needs a really strong RHEL person with some VMware, Solaris, AIX, VCS if possible .. they are supposed to be replacing the senior techie  who is leaving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide level 3 technical support for Linux/Unix systems, resolving complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain software applications commonly used by customers on various operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and manage IT infrastructure components, including servers, storage systems, and network devices.
  • Leverage expertise in Private and Public Cloud infrastructure, VMWARE, and backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Administer Active Directory and ensure seamless integration with Linux/Unix environments.
  • Implement cybersecurity principles and best practices to ensure network security, access control, and vulnerability assessment.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Level 3 Technical Support Engineering, time served apprenticeship, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting technical issues related to software, hardware, and networking.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and common software applications.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.

Desirable:

  • CCNA certification.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent understanding of Private and Public Cloud infrastructure.
  • VMWARE.
  • Server and Storage hardware.
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery strategies.
  • Active Directory.

Skills:

  • Networking Proficiency: Configuring and troubleshooting LANs, WANs, routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Cybersecurity Principles: Network security, access control, encryption, vulnerability assessment, and incident response.
  • Cloud Computing: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, virtual machines, storage, networking, and security.
  • IT Infrastructure: Hardware components, data center management, server virtualization, storage technologies, and backup and recovery.
  • Database Management: SQL, MySQL, Oracle, database design, querying, optimization, and administration.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Verbal and written communication, stakeholder interaction, and team collaboration.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in IT engineering.
