Position Summary:

The Dental Oral Surgery Billing Specialist is responsible for managing the billing process for oral surgery procedures in a remote setting. This role requires a thorough understanding of oral surgery billing, ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of claims to insurance companies. The specialist will work closely with patients, insurance providers, and internal teams to resolve billing issues, maintain compliance, and optimize revenue cycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Billing and Coding: Accurately code dental oral surgery procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and CDT codes, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Claims Submission: Submit clean, accurate, and timely claims to insurance companies and follow up as needed.
  • Insurance Verification: Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for oral surgery procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations when required.
  • Accounts Receivable: Monitor and manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely follow-up on unpaid or denied claims.
  • Denial Management: Identify, research, and appeal denied or underpaid claims, resolving discrepancies with insurance companies.
  • Patient Communication: Communicate with patients regarding balances, payment plans, and insurance-related inquiries.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate patient and claim records, adhering to HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to management on billing status, aged receivables, and cash flow issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clinical, administrative, and management teams to address billing issues and improve processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma required; Associates or Bachelors degree in Health Administration, Medical Billing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in oral surgery billing.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of dental coding, billing practices, and insurance policies (including Medicare and Medicaid).
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work proactively in a remote environment.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with Eaglesoft, WinOMS, OMS Vision, Dentrix, and CareStack is required.
  • Certifications: Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., CPC, CBCS) is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to use a computer and telephone for a significant portion of the day.

Work Environment:

  • This is a fully remote position.
  • Strong communication with team members, management, and patients is essential.
  • Standard business hours are expected, Monday through Friday.
