Senior Architectural Technician for Specialist Architectural Studio Berkshire

Salary: £48,000 - £50,000 Negotiable depending on experience.

About the Role

We are momentarily hiring a professional Architectural Technician/Technologist to join our clients team at a RIBA chartered practice based in London, with over 30 years in the industry. This role demands confidence in the technical design of projects, responsibility for budget plans and punctuality on delivery every time. To become a key member of a busy, friendly practice, demonstrating a plethora of experience over multiple work sectors; predominantly healthcare, retirement living and specialised supported-living communities. A successful candidate must be able to bridge the gap between attractive functional building ideas and successful reality, with efficiency and confidence. Ensuring that the right materials are used and that the building meets current regulations, all whilst leading and nurturing a team of technicians, overcoming any challenges they might face.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day management of multiple projects on site. 

  • Lead and manage the team through relevant work stages, overseeing client portfolios, and ensuring project outputs adhere to agreed schedules.
  • Assist in allocating resources within the team.
  • Aid in recruiting new members for the detailed design team.

  • Train junior members to understand the design aspects of construction projects and their impact on performance and functional issues.
  • Support the implementation of new software in the business.

  • Assist in executing the BIM Strategy Plan.

  • Engage with clients and other professionals early to establish the project brief.

  • Evaluate and advise on environmental, legal, and regulatory issues.

  • Develop project briefs and design programs.

  • Advise clients on project procurement methods and contract forms.

  • Manage health and safety responsibilities.

  • Produce documentation for statutory approval authorities.

  • Contribute to planning applications and other regulatory processes.

  • Determine necessary surveys (e.g., land surveys) before commencement and integrate results into the project.
  • Manage and coordinate the design team and professional consultants.

  • Visit project sites to ensure consistent communication with the construction team.
  • Manage or coordinate professionals working on a project.

  • Ensure all work complies with the Quality Management System.

  • Obtain and evaluate tenders and contracts.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 10 years experience in an architectural practice.

  • Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) certification (preferred, not required).
  • Confidence with direct client interaction and project delivery responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with the residential care sector.

  • A proven ability to manage a team and schedule resources with punctual delivery.
  • Experience in internal financial management of projects.

  • Comprehension of how construction project design aspects affect performance and functional issues, enabling practical problem-solving from the inception to completion..
  • Solid knowledge of CDM regulations.

  • Understanding of UK statutory regulations.

  • Expertise in building regulations, robust details, BREEAM and other relevant project guidelines.
  • Proficient in using production packages, including:

  • Expertise using AutoCAD

  • Proficiency using Revit (essential, with 5+ years of experience)

  • NBS Specification Managerial Skills (preferred)

  • Familiarity with SketchUp
