Curriculum Coach

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL)

Objective:

This full-time position would serve as a leader within the academic office to work alongside elementary administrative and teaching staff. Coordinated through the Academic Office, they ensure effective alignment of curriculum, while supporting elementary staff in the areas of instruction and assessment. This role is multifaceted, and will serve as a mentor, coordinator, and collaborator to ensure the high performance of elementary teachers.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in any specific teaching area with preferred 7 or more years of relevant teaching experience. Roles in educational leadership are helpful but not required.

  • Training in, knowledge of, and/or experience with curriculum development, implementation, and assessment preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including facilitating team discussions and processes.

  • A successful record of impacting student achievement and working effectively with students who have different learning needs.

  • Proven ability to mentor, work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, and nurture a professional community of adult lifelong learners.

  • Demonstrated ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.

  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.

  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.

  • Familiarity or expertise in Standards-based learning practices.

  • Demonstrated evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.

  • Familiarity with educational principles such as Understanding By Design (UBD), Science of Reading (SOR) and other current instructional practices preferred.

  • Familiarity with Atlas or other curriculum-mapping programs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Teaching and Learning, elementary administrators, and K-12 Department Chairs to align curriculum across grade levels within the elementary.

  • Conduct an inventory of curricular materials as they relate to content area standards.

  • Assist teachers in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.

  • Work alongside K-12 Department Chairs and grade level leaders and help facilitate the curriculum review cycle.

  • Help coordinate and facilitate the curriculum materials review for relevant content areas based on cycle.

  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding and implementing YISS prioritized instructional strategies and general best practices.

  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.

  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.

  • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistently with YISS initiatives and best instructional practices.

  • Assist teachers in understanding the YISS mission and core values.

  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.

  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.

  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teachers professional growth and students success.

  • Develop staff members knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.

  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement in collaboration with administration.

  • Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.

  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.

  • Support the development of a collaborative professional growth model within the elementary.

  • Participate in and host professional development for in-service days, staff meetings, and other times as needed.

  • Role may require some teaching duties based on divisional needs.


Contractual Requirements:

The Elementary Curriculum Coach position is on a teacher contract and will be expected to be on duty for up to 10 days, at the discretion of the supervisor, before the school year starts or after school year ends. The stipend amount for the additional days will be determined on a daily rate or by the current contracted stipend (whichever amount is greater of the two).
