About the job Elementary School SLS/ELL Teacher

Objective:

To provide English language and/or academic support to middle school English Language Learner (ELL) students and to provide academic support to students in the Student Learning Services (SLS) program.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Current ELL/Special Education Teaching certification
2. Bachelor Degree in Education
3. Prior experience in the area of English language teaching preferred
4. Prior experience working with special needs children preferred


Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Identify and assess students who need English Language instruction. The ELL/SLS teacher will collaborate with the SLS Coordinator and Admissions Director to determine incoming students’ language needs via skype interviews and/or WIDA screening.

2. Work with MS administration and counselor to schedule and provide ELL classes for students.

3. Provide academic lab support for ELL and/or SLS students as needed. The ELL/SLS teacher will work with classroom teachers and SLS Coordinator to determine the greatest needs for academic support.

4. Assist ELL and/or SLS students with study skills.

5. Provide assistance and expertise to classroom teachers as they teach ELL and/or SLS students, and assist teachers with creating modified tests for beginning level ELL students and SLS students as needed.

6. Maintain student records, including quarterly progress reports to parents.

7. Perform assigned supervisory duties and responsibilities (before school, lunch and after school, etc.).

8. Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum.

9. Participate in prescribed collaborative and personal professional development.

10. Implement WIDA standards into curriculum maps (Atlas) as needed.

11. Follow school policies, procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines and the provisions of the contract as outlined in the Faculty/Staff Handbook and other school publications.

12. Maintain state/provincial/ACSI teaching credentials.

13. Safeguard the interest and mission of the school and the NICS/Oasis organization.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.
