Functional Safety Engineer (Software Level)
Job Description:
We are looking for a Functional Safety Software Engineer. In this role, you will define safety architecture and processes for critical control systems, bridging system-level requirements with software implementation. You will lead and coach development teams while establishing robust safety compliance procedures. This permanent position is based in Belgium (Bruges) with a hybrid work policy, requiring relocation.
What you'll be doing:
- Design, implement, and maintain software for safety-critical off-highway systems.
- Ensure software compliance with functional Safety Standards, such as ISO 26262.
- Create and maintain safety documentation throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with the functional safety lead engineer on system-level safety concepts.
- Support the planning and monitoring of safety-related software activities.
- Coach the software team on functional safety best practices and standards.
- Work with the validation and verification (V&V) team on safety implementation and testing.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety-related software development processes.
What we're looking for:
- Master's degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electronics, or Electromechanical Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in embedded software development, preferably in automotive or off-highway systems.
- Strong background in developing safety-critical embedded systems.
- Experience with functional safety standards implementation.
- Systems thinking across software, electronics, and mechanical domains.
- Proficiency in embedded programming languages and development tools.
- Excellent English communication skills; Dutch language skills required (or willingness to learn).
- A methodical, detail-oriented approach with a focus on delivering quality and compliance.
