About the job SEISMIC FLEET / MASTER
RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY
The Master has the highest and overriding authority. He has the responsibility to make any decisions with respect to safety, security and pollution prevention and to request the company's assistance as may be necessary.
The Master has the responsibility to operate the ship according to The Flag State legislations and the IMS.
The Master has the total responsibility for the ship and onboard personnel.
In the event that the Master uses his authority to deviate from the system, the Master shall, as soon as practically, report in writing to the
Company the specific deviation and the reason for it.
The Master's responsibility includes but is not restricted to the contents of this instruction.
It is the Masters responsibility to clarify any item not sufficiently described in this job description.
PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
The Master shall have relevant and updated knowledge on:
Laws and regulations from the authorities.
Recommendations from the Classification Society.
The owners instructions and IMS.
Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Any other items that have any significance for the performance of the duties as a Master.
HSEQ Awareness
The Master shall study the IMS carefully and follow the instructions in the manual. He is responsible for the implementation onboard, and shall motivate the crew in utilizing the IMS, and maintain a high focus on HSEQ.
In cooperation with the SSO, manage security on board and make sure that all crew have sufficient knowledge about the ISPS Code and its purpose.
The Master shall prepare reports of accident and near-accident according to HSEQ Reporting Procedure.
Training
The Master shall ensure that necessary familiarization is given to new personnel according to STCW-95.
It is the Masters responsibility to ensure that emergency drills and SOLAS training is carried out at the required intervals. The Master shall verify that the safety and fire training manuals are available for all onboard and that they are used.
The Master shall ensure that training to next level is implemented and sufficient support given to officers.
Crew
Master shall ensure all crew onboard are certified according to held position and carry with them documentation required.
Master shall ensure all maritime crew carry with them employment contracts.
Master together with crewing provider and Superintendent are responsible to safely man the vessel according to crew model.
Contracts - Clients
The Master shall inform the crew of special requirements in the contract and verify that they are complied with. The Master shall ensure
that the Clients contractual requirements are complied with in such a manner that the Clients gain further confidence in PGS.
Bridge watch
The Master shall, if possible / needed, relieve bridge officers to give them sufficient time to perform their other duties.
Certificates
The Master shall ensure all certificates are up to date and that proactive actions are taken to renew certificates well before their expiry dates.
Personnel file
The Master shall prepare and maintain personnel file of crew for all maritime crew with the following, but limited to:
Personnel Certificates, including endorsements
Medical
Yellow fever
Safety courses
Other courses required by WSM PGS training matrix
Crew module in UniSea to be the primary location for crew to upload documents, alternatively DNV Navigator can be used.
For seismic crew he should have overview of the following, but not limited to:
Medical
Yellow fever
Any missing certificates or courses shall be reported to manning agent immediately up on noticing.
Operational economy
The Master is responsible for purchasing, and shall ensure proper budget control and notify the Superintendent of any deviations.
Vessel specific procedures
It is the Masters responsibility to identify the need for vessel specific procedures and ensure they are prepared and updated accordingly.
The Master shall verify that the bridge procedures are available on the bridge and that they are used.
Reporting and filing
The Master shall ensure that reports are sent in accordance with the Masters Reporting Matrix
