The Opportunity:

Our client, a leader in large-scale data center construction, is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to oversee all facets of a hyperscale data center campus build. This individual will serve as the onsite representative and key interface between the Engineering, Project Management, and Construction Teams.

The successful candidate will bring the experience, knowledge, and leadership skills necessary to lead construction teams and activities to a safe and successful delivery, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. A deep understanding of all facets of the building process, from initial planning and foundational work through to project completion and turnover, is required.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, strong technical expertise, and the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment is crucial.

Travel and Location:

  • Location: Frederick, MD.
  • Travel: Up to 10% for company gatherings.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end construction process for data center projects, from development to final delivery.
  • Actively monitor the safety of all site infrastructure, substation, and core/shell construction.
  • Manage interface coordination among suppliers, general contractors (GCs), authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee stewardship of site permits.
  • Manage logistics across multiple sites.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Ensure all site personnel follow OSHA safety requirements and immediately halt any unsafe operations.
  • Oversee contractors, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure quality control, safety, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Development, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure seamless project handoff and operational readiness.
  • Monitor and report project progress to senior leadership, identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Build trusting relationships with clients, JHAs, GCs, and subcontractors to facilitate successful project delivery.
  • Conduct weekly/daily delay surveys to maintain the Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and work with Project Managers to update schedules in real time.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating construction processes and implementing best practices.
  • Assist team members in assembling closeout documents, including O&M manuals, warranties, and preventive maintenance agreements, as the project nears substantial completion.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or a combination of education and relevant experience).
  • 12+ years of experience managing data center construction projects or large-scale infrastructure/mission-critical projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project), and project management tools like Procore or similar.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and contracts, with knowledge of construction methods and technologies.
  • Proven experience managing large teams of contractors and subcontractors, with a focus on delivering projects on time and under budget.
  • Knowledge of building-code requirements and scheduling methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction worksite safety practices.
  • Professional certifications such as CCM (Certified Construction Manager), AC (Associate Constructor), or CPC (Certified Professional Constructor) preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Proficiency in Procore and other construction management software.
  • Working knowledge of green building practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional environment.
