Job Title: Lead Accountant Hospitality
Location: Port Harcourt
Job Summary:
The Lead Accountant in the hospitality industry is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of a hotel, resort, or hospitality business. This includes managing day-to-day accounting tasks, preparing financial reports, managing budgets, ensuring tax compliance, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management. The Lead Accountant will ensure the accuracy of all financial records and help optimize the financial health of the hospitality establishment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring they are accurate and comply with industry accounting standards (e.g IFRS).
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Develop, manage, and monitor the annual operating budget. Provide forecasts and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and operational goals.
Accounts Management:
Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring all financial transactions, such as guest payments, vendor payments, and employee reimbursements, are processed timely and accurately.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor the companys cash flow to ensure that there are adequate funds available to meet operational needs. Recommend actions to improve cash management practices.
Billing & Collections:
Oversee the billing process for guests, ensuring the timely and accurate issuance of invoices. Manage collections processes and resolve any discrepancies or guest-related financial issues promptly.
Payroll Administration:
Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, including salaries, benefits, and bonuses. Adhere to tax regulations and ensure proper documentation for compliance.
Audit & Compliance:
Manage internal and external audits, ensuring that all financial activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and ensure the establishment remains compliant with tax laws.
Financial Analysis & Reporting:
Provide financial insights, reports, and recommendations to senior management, helping guide decisions related to pricing, cost control, and profitability. Analyze trends and benchmarks in the hospitality industry.
Cost Control & Profitability:
Identify and implement cost-saving measures to improve profitability. Analyze operational costs, such as utilities, maintenance, and staffing, and recommend improvements or adjustments to maximize financial performance.
Team Supervision & Development:
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and guidance on accounting procedures, internal controls, and industry standards. Foster a collaborative team environment to ensure smooth financial operations.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Implement and monitor internal financial controls to safeguard the organizations assets. Ensure adherence to all financial policies, including those related to cash handling, guest payments, and expense reporting.

Key Skills & Qualifications:
HND/BSC in Accounting
ICAN certification will be an added advantage
5- 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within the hospitality industry (e.g., hotels, resorts, or restaurants).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Oracle). Advanced skills in MS Excel and financial modelling.
Knowledge of Hospitality Industry Financials:
Strong understanding of the financial nuances of the hospitality industry, including revenue management, cost control, and economic performance metrics
