Job Title: Technical Safety Engineer – Design

The Technical Safety Engineer will provide specialist safety engineering support for oil and gas projects, with strong focus on facilities and pipeline safety design, risk assessment and regulatory compliance. The role ensures that all designs, modifications and operations for client assets are carried out to acceptable risk levels and in line with industry standards and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical safety input to the design, modification and operation of oil and gas facilities, including pipelines, process plants and associated infrastructure.
  • Lead and participate in safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, QRA, Bowtie and other risk assessments for new and existing projects.
  • Develop and review pipeline safety designs, ensuring integrity, overpressure protection, fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown and isolation are adequately addressed.
  • Review and approve safety-related engineering deliverables (P&IDs, layouts, cause & effect charts, fire & gas layouts, escape and evacuation plans).
  • Support preparation and maintenance of Safety Cases, safety critical element registers and performance standards for facilities and pipelines.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments, recommend risk reduction measures and demonstrate ALARP where required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, industry codes and standards for oil and gas and pipeline safety.
  • Contribute to incident investigations, root cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions related to technical safety issues.
  • Liaise with project, operations and maintenance teams to embed safety requirements into design, construction, commissioning and operations.
  • Provide technical safety support during audits, inspections and engagements with regulators and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Safety, Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or related discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years technical experience in safety design engineering within the oil and gas industry, with specific exposure to pipeline safety design.
  • Strong understanding of process/technical safety principles, hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience with safety studies and tools (HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, fire and explosion analysis, emergency response planning).
  • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, industry standards and best practices for oil and gas and pipeline systems.
  • Proven ability to work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate safety requirements clearly to stakeholders.
