Role summary

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Lead is responsible for leading all electrical, instrumentation and control system design and implementation activities for oil and gas projects, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of facilities. The role oversees power distribution, earthing, cabling, instrument loops and control philosophies, and ensures full integration with process and mechanical systems in line with company and industry standards.​

Key responsibilities

  • Lead all electrical and instrumentation engineering deliverables for assigned projects, from concept through detailed design and implementation.​
  • Develop and review designs for power distribution systems, earthing/grounding, cable routing, motor control centres and associated protection systems.​
  • Design, review and approve instrument loop diagrams, IO lists, cause‑and‑effect matrices and control philosophies, ensuring correct functionality and operability.​
  • Ensure full technical integration of E&I systems with process, mechanical, piping and safety systems for brownfield and greenfield facilities.​
  • Provide technical direction on control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, FGS) and field instrumentation, ensuring reliability and cybersecurity considerations are addressed.​
  • Coordinate with project, construction and commissioning teams to support installation, pre‑commissioning, commissioning and start‑up of E&I systems.​
  • Ensure all E&I designs comply with applicable codes, standards and client specifications, and that safety and operability are prioritised in all decisions.​
  • Prepare and review technical documents including specifications, datasheets, calculations, load lists, cable schedules and technical bid evaluations.​
  • Liaise with vendors and subcontractors on selection, FAT/SAT, troubleshooting and performance of electrical and instrumentation equipment.​
  • Support maintenance and operations by providing technical guidance on fault finding, modifications and optimisation of existing E&I systems.​

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation & Control or related discipline.​
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant  experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering within oil and gas (servicing, EPC or operating company), including onshore facilities.​
  • Strong hands‑on experience with power distribution, earthing, cabling, instrumentation design and control systems for process plants.​
  • Proven ability to develop and implement control philosophies and ensure integration of E&I with process and mechanical systems.​
  • Good knowledge of relevant international standards and codes (e.g. IEC, IEEE, API, NFPA) for electrical and instrumentation systems.​
  • Strong leadership, coordination and communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
