TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of radiographic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis.
  • Positions patient to image the required anatomy for optimal results.
  • Enters proper technical parameters into the x-ray generating equipment to enhance visualization of the anatomy.
  • Performs various procedures in imaging areas such as fluoroscopy, diagnostic, surgical, portable, CT.
  • Performs accurate and safe operation of imaging equipment by following established safety procedures under order to protect the patient and staff from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Inputs the proper operation parameters to assure minimal retakes.
  • Operates the radiographic and fluoroscopy units utilizing knowledge that will provide the optimal image at the lowest achievable radiation level to the staff and patient.
  • Operates the portable unit and C-arm unit utilizing knowledge that will provide the optimal image at the lowest achievable radiation to the staff and patient.
  • Operates the CT unit utilizing knowledge that will provide the optimal image at the lowest achievable radiation level to the staff and patient
  • Notifies supervisor of any conditions that may pose a hazard.
  • Performs operation of variety of equipment to process images or enhance exams.
  • Operates digital radiographic equipment to process radiographic images at optimum level for interpretation by radiologist.
  • Operates PACS/telerad equipment to verify transmission of images to radiologist.
  • Accesses PACS system to verify images are available for radiologists interpretation.
  • Operates laser printer to print images from the R&F unit or PACS.
  • Operates the power injector for contrasted CT exams.
  • Assesses the patients condition accurately by determining patients ability to comply with the physical requirements of the examination to minimize patient or examination problems.
  • Develops alternative methods to obtain required images and consults with radiologist in unusual circumstances to minimize problems.
  • Follows established radiation safety policies and procedures to protect patients and staff.
  • Utilizes radiation exposure reduction techniques such as proper collimation and lead shielding to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Wears personal radiation monitoring device daily.
  • Performs in a manner that insures Patient Safety
  • Utilizes two patient identifiers.
  • Follows hand hygiene policy.
  • Administers contrast media following established protocols.
  • Provides competent, safe and effective Patient Care.
  • Obtains patient medical history pertinent to the exam ordered and supplies the correct information to the radiologist.
  • Acquires clinical indication/contra indication for exams ordered.
  • Ensures patient reports are received in a timely manner for the physician.
  • Performs various administrative duties.
  • Schedules exams coordinating schedule with available techs, mobile services and radiologists.
  • Assumes phone responsibilities
  • Ensures patient charges are accurate for billing.
  • Organizes work to achieve highest productivity and effective time management.
  • Maintains the various supplies in the rooms operations to provide efficient and effective departmental operations.
  • Finds constructive ways to utilize down time.
  • Able to be flexible in own workflow to accommodate additional workload or unexpected interruptions.
  • Able to prioritize greatest need in emergency/rapidly changing situations, and adjust accordingly while maintaining calm and composed.

  • Participates in department meetings and training opportunities to keep informed of changes affecting patient care and facility operations.
  • Meets the minimum annual educational requirements.

  • Provides positive role model for co-workers.
  • Identifies and participates in JCH&L committees, performance improvement and quality initiatives and other activities which support the health center and department operations.
  • Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of JCH&L operations and requirements of the JCH&L Compliance Program, including but not limited to the Service Excellence Standards, the Compliance Policy, Safety and Infection Control, all department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, and Federal and State of Nebraska regulations.
  • Participates in professional growth and development requirements and opportunities by attending department meetings, participation in required and voluntary educational programs and in-service meetings, including current literature, workshops, and other developmental opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS
    • Current ARRT RT (R) credential
    • Current Oregon license in Radiologic technology
    • BLS
    • 1+ years of in a Cath Lab/Angio
    • ACLS (within 6 months of hire)
