Job Summary
The Agronomist will play a critical role in supporting producers by conducting research, analyzing data, and providing expert recommendations to improve crop production. This position involves collaborating closely with farmers and internal teams to implement effective and sustainable agricultural practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Crop Management:
Develop and implement tailored crop management plans to improve yield and quality.
Monitor crop health, growth, and productivity to identify and resolve issues such as pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies.
2. Soil and Fertility Analysis:
Conduct soil tests and analyze results to determine nutrient levels and pH balance.
Recommend fertilizers, soil amendments, and crop-specific solutions to enhance productivity.
3. Research and Development:
Plan and execute field trials to evaluate seed varieties, fertilizers, and other agronomic inputs.
Analyze trial results and share insights with farmers and stakeholders to drive decision-making.
4. Sustainability Practices:
Advise farmers on sustainable practices such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and water conservation techniques.
Provide guidance on minimizing environmental impact while maintaining productivity.
5. Data Collection and Analysis:
Gather and analyze data on crop performance, weather patterns, and soil conditions to make data-driven recommendations.
Maintain detailed records of all research findings, field observations, and recommendations.
6. Irrigation and Water Management:
Develop and implement efficient irrigation strategies to optimize water use and maintain crop health.
Evaluate irrigation systems and recommend improvements where necessary.
7. Farmer and Stakeholder Support:
Provide technical support, training, and advice to farmers on agronomic best practices.
Address inquiries and provide tailored solutions to meet specific farming needs.
8. Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal agricultural regulations.
Prepare and submit detailed reports on findings, progress, and outcomes.
Qualifications
Education:
A bachelors degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field (required).
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in agronomy, crop management, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience with soil testing, field trials, and crop monitoring.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of soil science, crop production, and sustainable farming practices.
Proficiency in agricultural software and tools for data collection and analysis.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Advanced English proficiency for effective communication with clients and team members.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Capable of lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to travel to client sites and field locations as required.
