Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant/Admin Assistant with SMSF experience to join our remote team.
The ideal candidate is proactive, an excellent communicator, and capable of managing multiple priorities while delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and administrative support. You will work closely with clients, support accounting staff, and contribute to maintaining the smooth operation of the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative & Client Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for clients via phone and email, providing professional and friendly communication.
- Maintain, organize, and update client files and records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with firm policies.
- Accurately enter and update client data, financial information, and documentation in the firm's systems and accounting software.
- Assist with managing ATO correspondence and client follow-ups.
Accounting & SMSF Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Australian accounting standards.
- Prepare income tax returns and BAS for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and SMSFs.
- Process annual financials for various entity types, including SMSF compliance requirements.
- Perform account reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Support Xero payroll processing and contribute to internal process improvements.
- Assist in the preparation of tax planning figures and analysis.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with the team to meet deadlines and deliver accurate, high-quality work.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing responsive, reliable service.
- Stay updated on Australian tax law changes and accounting standards relevant to SMSF and general compliance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Australian public practice experience (including tax and financial statement preparation).
- Experience with SMSF compliance, financials, and tax return preparation.
- Proficiency in Xero, Class, and Active Workpapers.
- Familiarity with MYOB and QuickBooks is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of Australian taxation, accounting principles, and SMSF regulations.
- Experience preparing BAS, financial statements, and multi-entity tax returns.
- Minimum 2 years of administrative experience in an accounting or financial services environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
