The organization is strengthening its technical leadership at the group level to ensure long-term fleet reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency aligned with business strategy.

Role Overview

The Technical Director will lead the technical strategy and governance of the companys commercial fleet, ensuring vessel reliability, safety, and cost-effective lifecycle management. This role serves as a senior member of the leadership team and acts as the principal technical authority for all vessel-related matters. This position is strategic rather than offshore-based.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the technical and maintenance strategy for the commercial fleet in line with business objectives.
  • Oversee vessel maintenance programs covering machinery, electrical systems, and deck equipment, including cranes and cargo-handling systems.
  • Set governance standards for preventive maintenance, dry-docking, repairs, and technical risk management.
  • Provide executive oversight on major technical incidents, machinery failures, or fleet-wide technical issues.
  • Lead and develop technical superintendents, engineers, and third-party service providers.
  • Manage technical budgets, CAPEX planning, and cost optimization initiatives related to fleet assets.
  • Ensure compliance with classification society rules, flag state regulations, and international maritime standards.
  • Advise the CEO and COO on fleet condition, investment priorities, technical risks, and long-term asset strategy.

Requirements

  • 15–20+ years of experience in the commercial shipping industry, with progressive responsibility in technical roles.
  • Mandatory international shipping experience, with strong exposure to overseas routes and operations
  • Bachelors degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. MBA or postgraduate qualification in management, business, or maritime studies is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience as Chief Engineer, Technical Manager, Technical Superintendent, or equivalent senior leadership role is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated exposure to fleet-level technical strategy, dry-docking programs, and asset lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of marine machinery, electrical systems, and deck equipment used in commercial vessels.
  • Proven ability to operate at director or executive level, influencing business decisions beyond day-to-day operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
