Job Description: Operations Manager Shipping Company

We are seeking a highly experienced and resourceful Operations Manager with a solid background in shipping operations to lead and optimize day-to-day activities. The ideal candidate must have extensive hands-on experience managing fleets, a deep understanding of operational challenges in the shipping industry, and the ability to create robust systems to improve efficiency and prevent operational risks. This role also requires strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate the operations team.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the operation of some fleet of barges, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to schedules.
• Develop and implement systems to monitor and optimize daily operations, including mechanisms to prevent issues such as fuel theft and operational inefficiencies.
• Supervise and lead operations personnel, providing clear direction, support, and performance management to achieve operational goals.
• Analyze and streamline workflows for better coordination between departments and on-ground teams.
• Implement robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance with industry regulations.
• Monitor resource utilization, including fuel and equipment, to minimize waste and control costs.
• Identify potential operational risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
• Ensure the fleet and operations are maintained in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the operations team.
• Prepare detailed reports on fleet performance, resource utilization, and operational challenges for senior management.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Operations Management, or a related field.
• At least 10-15 years of experience in shipping operations, with proven expertise in managing fleets of 20-30 barges or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of operational challenges in the shipping industry, including fuel management and theft prevention strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective systems and SOPs.
• Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams effectively.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills with a hands-on approach to challenges.
• Strong knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.
