About the job Import Manager
The Import Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of all import activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods while complying with all relevant regulations. This role requires strong leadership, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of import procedures, customs regulations, and supply chain management.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Execution:
- Develop and implement import strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Forecast import volumes and manage budgets effectively.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and freight forwarders.
- Optimize import processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Stay abreast of changes in import regulations and trade policies.
- Operational Management:
- Oversee the entire import process, from order placement to delivery.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation for all import shipments.
- Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Manage customs clearance procedures and resolve any import-related issues.
- Track shipments and provide regular updates on delivery status.
- Manage import documentation and maintain accurate records.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant import regulations and trade laws.
- Implement internal controls to mitigate import-related risks.
- Conduct regular audits of import activities to ensure compliance.
- Manage relationships with customs authorities and other regulatory bodies.
- Supplier & Freight Forwarder Management:
- Negotiate contracts and service agreements with suppliers and freight forwarders.
- Monitor the performance of suppliers and freight forwarders and address any issues.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Team Leadership & Development (if applicable):
- Lead and motivate the import team (if applicable).
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on import activities, including key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze import data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide insights and recommendations to management on import-related issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of [Number] years of experience in import management, preferably in the FMCG industry.
- Strong knowledge of Indonesian import regulations, customs procedures, and trade laws.
- Experience in managing relationships with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and import management software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar certification.
- Experience in international trade and logistics.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and international shipping practices.
