We are supporting a manufacturing organization in Batam to identify a Product Design & Prototyping Engineer who will be involved end-to-end in product development activities. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning product design from early concept discussions through validation, testing, and handover to production, while working closely with customers and internal stakeholders.
What the role is aboutThis position sits within the R&D Engineering function and reports into senior product engineering leadership. The engineer will be actively involved in customer-facing design discussions, product trials, and technical problem-solving across the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product design activities from concept development through final release
- Engage directly with customers on design discussions, technical alignment, and project progress updates
- Support prototype builds, sample trials, and product testing activities
- Investigate and resolve design, process, and performance-related issues
- Manage product development tasks to meet technical, quality, and timeline requirements
- Develop detailed product and component drawings in line with customer specifications and applicable standards
- Apply structured problem analysis and data-driven methods to improve product performance
- Identify critical material characteristics and ensure consistency in finished products
- Prepare and maintain DFMEA documentation
- Act as a technical reference for cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and sales
What were looking for
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Around 3 years of experience in product design or new product development within a manufacturing environment
- Exposure to electrical connectivity, cable assemblies, or harness-related products is highly valued
- Working knowledge of molding processes, material selection, and basic mold tooling concepts
- Basic understanding of high-speed stamping processes and die design principles
- Familiarity with environmental and regulatory requirements such as RoHS and REACH
- Proficient in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks or Creo (mandatory)
- Comfortable working in English in a professional engineering environment
- Knowledge of quality systems such as IATF/TS 16949, ISO 9001, or ISO 13485 is an advantage
- R&D-focused role based in Batam with close interaction across engineering, production, and customers
- Hands-on involvement throughout development, testing, and industrialization phases
