The R&D Portfolio Manager is a key role in the research and development department, overseeing a team of engineers, scientists and project managers who work on a specific set of products within the overall R&D portfolio. The R&D Portfolio Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring the projects, ensuring that they meet the quality, cost, and time objectives and may also work directly in a project management capacity for specific projects. The R&D Portfolio Manager also provides technical guidance, mentorship, and feedback to the team members, and fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a team of R&D engineers, scientists, and project managers assigning tasks, setting goals, and evaluating performance.
  • Oversee assigned R&D portfolio area in aspects such as: annual budgets, prioritization of projects and new project ideas, management of sandbox projects, IP, and alignment of R&D strategy with product managers.
  • Lead and coordinate the design, development, testing, and validation of new and existing products, following the stage-gate process and adhering to the regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and manage the gate reviews, project plans, budgets, and timelines, ensuring that the deliverables are met within the scope, quality, and cost constraints.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other R&D teams, cross-functional departments, external partners, and stakeholders, to ensure alignment and integration of the products and technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and troubleshooting support to the team and the customers, as needed.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement, innovation, and optimization of the products and processes, using data-driven and customer-centric approaches.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, developments, and best practices in the relevant fields, and participate in professional networks and events.
  • Provide laboratory and site testing support and reporting as requested for applications involving the products within your portfolio and ensure alignment of test procedures and results internally within the global lab network.
  • Ensure compliance with the company policies, procedures, and standards, as well as the ethical, legal, and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science, or related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in R&D or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering complex and innovative R&D projects, from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge in the relevant product and technology domains, such as Crushing, Milling, Grinding and adjacent products.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, and influence others.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Proficient in using various tools and software for R&D, such as MS Office, PPM, Power BI, SolidWorks and Stat-Ease.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and open to change, with the willingness to learn and grow.
