Intern - Geotechnical Engineering Lab

Whitestone Associates, Inc., a 100% employee-owned company and leading provider of environmental and geotechnical engineering and consulting services throughout the eastern US, is currently recruiting a Geotechnical Engineering Intern to work in our Geotechnical and Materials Testing Laboratory in Alpha NJ.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineering students to get real-life experience in the geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing sector of civil engineering. This is a paid, part-time position with flexible hours.

Location: Alpha, NJ

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Laboratory Manager in daily lab operations and testing procedures;
• Prepare soil and construction material samples for laboratory analysis;
• Conduct laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, index testing, moisture content testing, standard and modified proctor testing, and permeability testing of various soils;
• Conduct laboratory tests for concrete including delivery of samples to the laboratory, curing, temperature monitoring, test scheduling, sample preparation, and unconfined compressive strength testing;
• Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory testing equipment and adherence to safety procedures; and
• Accurately record test results and assist with data entry for technical reporting.

Requirements:

• Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or similar technical field of study;
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality;
• Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on lab environment; and
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
