About the job Geotechnical Laboratory Technician
Whitestone Associates, Inc., a 100% employee-owned consulting firm providing environmental, geotechnical, and construction inspection services throughout the eastern United States, is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Laboratory Technician. Location: Alpha, NJ
Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory testing on concrete, soil, and construction materials in accordance with established procedures, ASTM standards, and industry testing methodologies;
- Conduct laboratory testing of soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, index testing, moisture content testing, standard and modified Proctor testing, and permeability testing;
- Receive, log, cure, and prepare concrete cylinders for compressive strength testing (concrete breaks);
- Monitor concrete sample curing conditions and maintain testing schedules;
- Operate laboratory equipment used for compression testing and materials preparation;
- Assist with construction materials testing, sample preparation, and documentation of test results for engineers and project managers;
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and testing logs;
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace and assist with routine maintenance of testing equipment;
- Follow established safety procedures and company standards during all laboratory activities;
- Occasional travel to nearby project sites to retrieve soil or concrete samples for laboratory testing; and
- Perform other duties as assigned under the direction of the Laboratory Manager.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred;
- Interest in soils, construction materials testing, and laboratory work;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow testing procedures accurately;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting; and
- Ability to lift and move soil or concrete samples as required.
Certifications:
Certifications are not required for this position. Training and support for relevant industry certifications may be provided as experience is gained. Existing certifications related to construction materials testing are considered a plus.
Benefits:
- The estimated pay range for this position is $20 to $28 per hour. Candidates with prior materials testing or laboratory experience may be considered for compensation above this range.
