About Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra

The Westerwelle Foundation for International Understanding, headquartered in Berlin, Germany, is a non-profit organization established in 2013 by Dr. Guido Westerwelle, former German Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ralph Dommermuth, CEO and Founder of United Internet AG.

The Foundation's work aims to accelerate digital transformation in emerging economies and create positive spill-over effects that strengthen transparency, integrity, and innovation within both private and public sector institutions. To support entrepreneurship ecosystems and foster innovation, the Westerwelle Foundation operates entrepreneurship hubs known as Westerwelle Startup Haus. These hubs are currently located in Tunis (Tunisia), Kigali (Rwanda), Arusha (Tanzania), Mombasa (Kenya), and Accra (Ghana), providing entrepreneurs with access to workspaces, networks, mentoring, and entrepreneurship support programmes tailored to different sectors and stages of business development.

The Westerwelle Startup Haus Accra (WSHAC), located in Accra and officially opening this year, serves as a collaborative entrepreneurship hub connecting founders, innovators, investors, corporates, universities, and ecosystem partners. Through flexible workspaces, entrepreneurship programmes, networking events, and strategic partnerships, WSHAC supports entrepreneurs in building scalable businesses while strengthening Ghana's innovation ecosystem and fostering collaboration across Africa.

Overview

The Community & Marketing Assistant is the first point of contact for every member, visitor, and prospective client who arrives at the Haus, and produces the content that makes WSHAC visible. The role keeps front of house and member records accurate and current, and turns what happens at the Haus into social media, newsletter, and website content. This is a national service position.

Key Responsibilities

Front of house and members

  • Open and close reception, and ensure the reception, lobby, and common areas are presentable throughout the day.
  • Welcome and register all visitors, issue passes, and direct guests to their host.
  • Answer the main telephone line and monitor the general enquiries inbox, responding or escalating as appropriate.
  • Check in members and day-pass users and maintain accurate daily occupancy records.
  • Manage meeting room, boardroom, and call booth bookings, and resolve scheduling clashes.
  • Give campus tours to prospective members and hand serious enquiries to the appropriate colleague the same day.
  • Maintain the member directory and access records in Airtable.

Content and social media

  • Photograph and film Haus events, programme sessions, and community moments.
  • Edit short-form video and stills, and draft captions, event recaps, and short articles in the WSHAC voice.
  • Schedule and publish across WSHAC's social channels according to the content calendar.
  • Support the monthly newsletter: drafting, image selection, and distribution list upkeep.
  • Keep the website's events, news, and team pages current.
  • Maintain an organised media library with clear file naming and folder conventions.

Brand and community

  • Apply Westerwelle Foundation brand guidelines consistently across everything produced.
  • Monitor engagement and report simple monthly performance figures.
  • Collect founder and member stories for use in reporting, marketing, and fundraising.

Event support

  • Support registration and guest check-in at Haus events.
  • Assist with signage, wayfinding, and guest handling on event days.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or HND in communications, marketing, journalism, hospitality, business administration, or a related field.
  • Eligible national service Candidate for 2026/2027 cycle
  • Warm, confident, and professional with people, and comfortable being the first person a stranger meets.
  • Organised and reliable, and keeps records current without being chased.
  • Competent with a camera (a good smartphone is fine) and at least one editing tool such as Canva, CapCut, or the Adobe suite.
  • Clear spoken and written English with a reliable ear for tone. Twi or another Ghanaian language is an asset.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and willing to learn Airtable.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to help build and shape one of Ghana's newest entrepreneurship hubs from the ground up.
  • A dynamic, international, and purpose-driven working environment.
  • Exposure to startups, investors, international partners, and innovation ecosystems across Africa and Europe.
  • Opportunities for professional development and international collaboration within the Westerwelle Foundation network.
  • A collaborative team culture built on trust, ownership, creativity, and impact.
