Registered Nurse – ICU (Intensive Care Unit) | Porterville, CA
We are partnering with a well-established, community-focused acute care medical center in Porterville, California to find an experienced and driven Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU to join their Critical Care team. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a nurse who thrives in a high-acuity environment and is committed to delivering expert, life-saving care to critically ill patients.
Position Details
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital — Intensive Care Unit (ICU / Critical Care)
- Patient Population: All ages — including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn
- Schedule: Full-Time | 12-hour shifts
- Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Weekends/Holidays: Required — including call-backs, weeknights, and on-call as needed
- Location: Porterville, CA
- Pay Rate: $46.47 – $65.00 per hour
- Start Date: ASAP
Sign-On Bonus
- $10,000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 3+ years of RN experience
- $5,000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 1–3 years of RN experience
About the Role
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager, and Charge Nurse, the ICU RN independently provides holistic, individualized critical care using the nursing process. You will demonstrate an advanced level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, and teaching skills in one of the most demanding and rewarding units in the hospital. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly skilled in critical care assessment, and committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform the role of ICU RN per the policies, procedures, and standards of the Critical Care Services department
- Provide age-appropriate assessment, treatment, and care for all critically ill patients served
- Utilize holistic assessment skills to recognize subtle, covert, or abnormal signs and symptoms
- Initiate appropriate measures to support patient survivability and maintain functionality during life-threatening events
- Ensure ICU rooms are properly set up and ready to receive critically ill patients efficiently
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized Care Plans incorporating interdependent nursing standards and discharge needs of complex, multi-system patients
- Safely administer medications, troubleshoot equipment, and demonstrate clinical problem-solving skills per established policy
- Communicate patient needs and changes in status to care providers in an effective and timely manner
- Adhere to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) as defined by scope of practice
- Demonstrate proper infection prevention skills including protocols related to central lines and indwelling Foley catheters
- Complete required unit-specific performance criteria and annual competency assessments
- Demonstrate knowledge of chain of command for effective issue resolution
- Maintain accurate, compliant documentation per hospital policies and procedures
- Uphold all aspects of the California Nursing Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics
- Participate in emergencies and community disasters as a designated disaster service worker per the California Emergency Services Act
Requirements
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing — required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification — required (or obtained during orientation prior to hands-on patient care)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification — required (or obtained within 6 months of assignment)
- Basic arrhythmia recognition training — required (with ongoing competency maintenance)
- ICU or Critical Care nursing experience — strongly preferred
- Basic computer skills — required
- Ability to calculate medication dosages appropriate to patient population served
- Must be available for holidays, weekends, call-backs, and on-call shifts as required
- Must work well under pressure, meet multiple competing deadlines, and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Rate: $46.47 – $65.00/hour
- Sign-on bonus: $10,000 (3+ years RN experience) | $5,000 (1–3 years RN experience)
