Director of Nursing, RN (DON) – Subacute Rehab Facility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, manage, and mentor the nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and support staff. Foster an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and professional growth, ensuring staff are equipped with the skills to provide top-tier patient care.
  • Quality of Care Oversight: Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in accordance with the highest standards, clinical best practices, and patient safety guidelines. Oversee assessments, care planning, and treatment to ensure optimal outcomes for patients recovering from various conditions, including post-surgical rehab, neurological recovery, and more.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing department, including staffing, scheduling, and resource management. Ensure the department runs efficiently, maintaining appropriate staffing levels and managing the nursing budget effectively.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies. Stay current with all healthcare policies and ensure all nursing documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Quality Improvement: Lead quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, improving patient satisfaction, and maintaining high clinical standards. Monitor and evaluate patient care performance, identify trends, and implement action plans for improvement.
  • Patient & Family Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and rights of patients and their families. Work closely with the interdisciplinary care team to develop personalized care plans and ensure that patients receive compassionate, individualized treatment.
  • Training & Education: Oversee the education and training of nursing staff, ensuring they remain up to date with clinical guidelines, regulatory changes, and facility policies. Develop and implement in-service training programs to keep staff engaged and informed.
  • Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other allied health professionals to ensure a holistic, integrated approach to patient care.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Participate in budget development and cost control efforts while ensuring that quality of care is never compromised. Effectively allocate resources to meet patient needs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strategic Planning & Growth: Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the reputation and performance of the facility. Lead efforts in improving patient throughput, satisfaction, and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or healthcare management is strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Certification in Nursing Administration or a related field preferred (e.g., Certified Director of Nursing Administration (CDONA))
  • CPR/BLS certification required
  • Experience in Long-Term Care, Subacute Rehab, or similar settings preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or managerial role in a subacute, rehab, or long-term care facility.
  • Proven track record in managing nursing teams, quality improvement projects, and operational performance.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and guide a multidisciplinary team.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and patient safety standards.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) and nursing management software.
