Key Responsibilities:

  • Trauma Program Leadership: Manage the day-to-day operations of the trauma program, ensuring that all activities align with national trauma care standards and the hospital’s goals for trauma care. Lead quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs focused on trauma care.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Serve as the key point of contact for all trauma services and work closely with surgeons, emergency department staff, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive, integrated trauma care.
  • Trauma Registry Management: Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of trauma registry data to ensure accurate documentation and continuous improvement. Monitor trauma patient outcomes and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the trauma program meets all regulatory requirements, including those from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and state health departments. Maintain trauma program certification and accreditation.
  • Performance Improvement: Lead trauma performance improvement (PI) activities by identifying trends, analyzing patient care data, and implementing evidence-based practices to improve trauma care outcomes. Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Trauma Education & Training: Develop and coordinate educational programs for staff, including trauma nursing protocols, initial trauma assessments, and advanced trauma care techniques. Support ongoing education for trauma team members to ensure skills and knowledge are up-to-date.
  • Patient Care Advocacy: Ensure that trauma patients receive the highest level of care through every stage of their treatment, from the emergency room to rehabilitation. Advocate for patients' needs and ensure the smooth coordination of care across departments.
  • Community Outreach & Education: Represent the trauma program in the community through outreach programs, injury prevention initiatives, and collaboration with local EMS services. Educate the public on trauma-related topics and promote trauma care awareness.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyze trauma care metrics, identify patterns, and work with the leadership team to implement strategies for improving patient care, reducing trauma-related complications, and enhancing patient outcomes.
  • Trauma Call Team Leadership: Oversee the trauma call system and ensure an efficient and effective response to trauma alerts, coordinating multidisciplinary teams for rapid assessment and intervention.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Assist with budget planning for the trauma program, including staffing, equipment, and training resources. Ensure appropriate allocation of resources to maximize program effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Certification in Trauma Nursing (TCRN) required or must be obtained within a designated timeframe
  • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) certification preferred
  • BLS/ACLS certifications required
  • Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or other relevant certifications a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience in trauma or critical care settings.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a leadership or management role within a trauma program or related area.
  • Experience with trauma registry management and quality improvement processes.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and engage with staff at all levels.
  • Expertise in trauma care protocols, trauma performance improvement, and regulatory standards.
  • Analytical skills with experience in data collection, performance tracking, and evidence-based decision making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
  • Knowledge of trauma registry systems and reporting requirements.
