Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Staff Management: Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring that each team member delivers high-quality, compassionate care. Foster a positive, collaborative team environment and promote professional development.
  • Quality Patient Care: Oversee day-to-day patient care activities to ensure that care is consistent with hospital policies, best practices, and patient needs. Manage patient flow, ensure timely care, and resolve issues that impact patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage the daily operations of the unit, including staffing, scheduling, patient assignments, and coordinating with other departments. Ensure that unit resources are used efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure that the unit complies with all regulatory requirements, including local, state, and federal healthcare regulations, hospital policies, and accreditation standards. Lead efforts in meeting quality metrics and improving patient outcomes.
  • Staff Development: Provide ongoing education, training, and performance evaluations to nursing staff, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide exceptional patient care. Support staff in obtaining certifications and advancing their careers.
  • Clinical Excellence: Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement evidence-based protocols and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care. Act as a clinical resource and mentor for nurses to help them improve their practice and achieve excellence.
  • Performance Improvement: Lead and support continuous quality improvement initiatives, including identifying areas for improvement, implementing solutions, and tracking progress. Analyze patient care outcomes and take action to resolve any issues.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Assist in managing the unit’s budget, ordering supplies, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels to ensure the unit runs smoothly without unnecessary waste or shortages.
  • Patient and Family Advocacy: Advocate for patients and families, providing education, emotional support, and clear communication regarding care plans, procedures, and patient progress. Ensure that patient concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts within the team or between patients and staff, working to create a harmonious and supportive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN)
  • BSN is preferred for this leadership role.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) or specialty certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS for pediatric units, CCRN for ICU).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably with [unit/department] experience
  • Previous leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement processes.
